Punta Arenas stepping stone to the ant-arctic

Posted by Paul9856 under: Cities.

As Chiles most southern city Punta Arenas has become a starting point for many ant-arctic expeditions over the years. Now however it is hoping to become a starting point for many tourists visiting Chile for the first time as it is one of the most unique cities in the country. Some of the architecture here is simply amazing and i have heard great things about Gran Hotel Cabo de Hornos which is a favourite with visitors.

Indeed something that most people will not know about is that the city is a tax free zone for goods. This has meant that there has been a very healthy shopping scene in the city with many high-tech items from all over the world being imported here so they can be sold at a huge discount. The winters are quite harsh (as you would expect) but in summers they get temperatures between 14c and 20c. If your looking for an unusual city for your next trip then the most southern city in the world could be hard to beat!

Ever thought about Skiing in Chile?

Posted by Paul9856 under: Skiing.

Was browsing around the other day and i saw that theres a big push on to promote skiing and snowboarding in the regions of Chile. I think theres still alot of work to be done for both travel agencies and the government to promote this type of activity over here, as alot of people still don’t know that we even have snow. Skipatagonia.com has made a start with their site to help promote Patagonia but i really think that we need something bigger and possibly an international campaign to help the ski industry. I think another part of the problem is that winter sports holidays are alot more expensive than your average beach vacation and so when people want to save money this is the first industry to experience a downturn. Still you may want to check out www.chileanski.com which is one of the main operators and has some good discounts available.

Petrohue River rafting for the adventurous

Posted by Paul9856 under: Rafting.

Ok so i have to admit that i have never been whitewater rafting and i suppose i am not as adventurous as i often like to think i am. I have this nightmare that i will just be bumped off the boat when we hit the first wave and the rest of the group will sail away without me! Still i think when you look at the facts the truth is that rafting is a very safe extreme sport (if there is such as thing). All the guides will be specially trained and most will have alot of experience. Theres also alot of safety equipment and the other good thing is the guides know the rivers you will be travelling on really well and the Petrohue is probably the most famous and well known river. Still i suppose you still want a little danger to add to all the excitement!

Best fishing lodges in Chile

Posted by Paul9856 under: Uncategorized.

So i wanted to mention i few of the top fishing lodges that i have noticed in Chile. I know there has been a big increase in the number of people looking for a relaxing fishing holiday over here and many people are looking for somewhere special to stay when in the mountains. I think the important thing to remember is that there you can still have all the comforts of home and the luxury of a hotel even though you are out in the wilderness.

Chile is still pretty famous for the size of Carp that have been caught over here. Plus the prices of alot of these hill lodges are very reasonable and there are some great deals around.

Trekking bookings in Chile up by over 40% in the last year

Posted by Paul9856 under: Trekking.

So i know there is alot of doom and gloom around these days with the current global financial problems but heres some good news from the tourism sector. Trekking vacations in the main regions such as Patagonia and Futaleufu. I suppose theres more and more people looking for something a bit different when it comes to a holiday and trekking seems to be ticking all of the right boxes for people.

I think its good though that people are starting to think outside the box a bit more and become more adventurous when thinking about a holiday. For some the idea of trekking sounds too much like work but at the same time i think that just sitting around the pool for a week can get pretty boring.Check with your operator today as there are still some great deals around despite the increase in demand.
